The Power of Pedaling: Cycling for Better Health

Section 1: Benefits of Using a Cycling Machine at Home

Convenience and flexibility:

Indoor cycling machines (like stationary bikes, spin bikes, or exercise bikes) offer the convenience of working out at any time. No need to worry about weather conditions, traffic, or finding a safe place to ride. You can cycle at your own pace, adjusting resistance and intensity without worrying about the terrain.

Great for All Fitness Levels:

Cycling machines allow beginners to start slowly and progress at their own pace. As your fitness improves, you can increase the resistance to make the workout more challenging. It’s also ideal for people with joint problems, as cycling is a low-impact exercise.

Controlled Environment:

The indoor environment offers stability. You can watch TV, listen to music, or follow along with workout videos while cycling, making it easier to stick to your routine.

No distractions from traffic, road conditions, or the environment—just you and your workout.

Cardiovascular Health & Weight Loss:

Regular cycling on a stationary bike can help improve heart health, increase lung capacity, and burn calories effectively, leading to weight loss.

A stationary bike provides an efficient way to get your heart rate up, whether you’re doing steady, moderate pace or interval training.

Tracking Progress:

Many indoor cycling machines come with built-in trackers to monitor time, distance, calories burned, and heart rate, making it easy to track your progress over time and set goals.

Section 2: Benefits of Cycling Outdoors on a Real Bike

Natural Terrain & Full Body Workout:
Outdoor cycling provides more dynamic workouts due to the changing terrain. Riding up hills, navigating turns, and adjusting to varying road conditions engages different muscle groups in the legs, core, and even the upper body.
You can use outdoor rides to build endurance and strength, particularly if you're cycling on challenging terrain like mountains or trails.

Connection with Nature & Mental Health:
One of the biggest benefits of outdoor cycling is the opportunity to connect with nature. Being outside, surrounded by fresh air, can boost your mood, reduce stress, and improve mental well-being.
Studies have shown that outdoor exercise, especially cycling, can help fight feelings of anxiety and depression.

Variety of Routes & Scenic Rides:
When cycling outdoors, the variety of routes and scenery provides a refreshing change from the monotony of indoor workouts. Riding along scenic paths, through parks, or along the beach makes the exercise enjoyable and gives a sense of adventure.
The mental stimulation of exploring new areas can also keep you motivated and excited to ride.

Social Connection & Community:
Outdoor cycling opens up the possibility of joining cycling clubs, participating in group rides, or competing in cycling events. It’s a great way to meet new people who share similar interests.
Group rides are also motivating and can help push you to ride longer or harder than you might on your own.

Higher Calorie Burn & Full-Body Engagement:
Cycling outdoors often leads to a higher calorie burn than indoor cycling, as you’re constantly adjusting to the terrain, pedaling harder on inclines, and possibly dealing with wind resistance.
The natural shifts in pace while cycling on the road lead to better overall physical conditioning and endurance.

5 Laws About Life

While growing up, we all learned different laws of physics, chemistry and of math. Today let's discuss five laws that can be applicable in our lives.

1. Murphy's Law - This law states that "anything that can go wrong will go wrong."

This law serves as a reminder of how important it is to plan ahead for the worst and to motivate individuals to take proactive steps to avoid issues before they arise.

2. The following statement states Kidlin's Law -

"If you can clearly write down the problem, then the matter is half solved."

This sentence is illustrated clearly and permits one to focus on comprehending the issue prior to resolving it.

3. Gilbert's Law -

American politician, newspaper publisher, and businessman Gilbert Lafayette Laws (March 11, 1838 - April 25, 1907) once said, "The biggest problem with a job is that no one tells you what to do."

4. Wilson's Law  -

This one is my favourite. Wilson's law states that if you prioritise knowledge and learning, money will always come.

5. Falkland's Law -

This law states that - " Postpone decision making and don't think about it if it's not needed right now."

In most of the situations in our daily life, delaying a decision can be a wise move, particularly if it's not an urgent one or if there isn't information to make a well-informed decision.

This can help you to learn more, examine several possibilities, and balance the advantages and disadvantages of each choice.

1% Better Each Day

Last week, as I read the first two chapters of James Clear's "Atomic Habits" again, I was reminded of hoe James compares habits to compound interest.

He explains that just like interest grows over time, habits build up can lead to big changes -

"Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement. The same way that money multiplies through compound interest, the effect of your habits multiply as you repeat them.

They seem to make little difference on any given day and yet the impact they deliver over the months and years can be enormous. It is only when looking back two, five, or perhaps 10 years later that the value of good habits and the cost of bad ones become strikingly apparent."

James Clear then shared an idea and a graph that have become very popular in the self-help world -

He says that "If you get just 1% better each day, you'll be almost 37 times better after one year."

Product Management & Behavioral Economics

1. User Behavior -

How people make decisions and interact with products or services. By studying user behavior companies can gain a deeper understanding of user and user's preferences and decision making processes. This insight can be very helpful in the product developmetn and to improve the user experience.

2. Nudging Users -

Behavioral economics emphasizes on "Nudging" users towards desired actions or behaviors by designing choice architectures that influences user without restricting the freedom of choice. Product Managers can leverage this nudges such as default options, social norms and framing effects to encourage users to take specific actions or adopt to desired behaviors within the product.

3. Designing for Habit Formation -

Behavioral economics highlights the importance of Habit Formation in shaping long-term behavior. Product managers can apply principles such as reinforcement, repetition, and triggers to design products that facilitate habit formation among users. By creating habits around product usage, companies can increase user engagement and retention.

4. Overcoming Cognitive Biases

Behavioral economics identifies various cognitive biases that influence decision-making, such as loss aversion, anchoring, and status quo bias.

Product managers can design features and interfaces that mitigate these biases and facilitate better decision-making. For example, providing clear information, simplifying choices, and offering personalized recommendations can help users overcome cognitive biases and make more informed decisions.

5. Optimizing Pricing Strategies -

Behavioral economics offers insights into how users perceive and respond to pricing strategies. Product managers can apply pricing tactics such as price anchoring, bundling, and decoy pricing to influence purchasing decisions and maximize revenue. By understanding how pricing affects user behavior, companies can design pricing models that align with user preferences and drive sales.

6. A/B Testing and Experimentation -

Product managers can use A/B testing and experimentation to validate hypotheses and optimize product features based on behavioral insights. By testing different variations of product designs, messaging, and user experiences, companies can identify which strategies are most effective in driving user engagement and achieving business objectives.

7. Ethical Considerations -

When applying behavioral economics principles in product management, it's essential to consider ethical implications and prioritize user well-being.

Product managers should strive to use nudges and behavioral interventions responsibly, avoiding manipulative tactics or exploiting cognitive biases for the sole purpose of driving user engagement or increasing profits.

Hence, the intersection of Product Management and Behavioral Economics offers valuable opportunities for improving product design, enhancing user experience, and driving business success while also raising important ethical considerations.

The Significance of Kojagiri Purnima

The common believe as per the Hindu Mythology about Kojagiri Purnima or Sharad Purnima is that moon
showers Amrit or Elixir of life towards Earth.

It's a Full Moon night in the Autumn season. This night has both cultural & scientific significance and it is celebrated differently in different cultures.

Cultural Significance -
As per the popular Hindu believes this night, Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and fulfilment come to earth to visit her devotees and bless them with abundance of wealth and fortune.
So this night is celebrated by staying up late.

Kojagiri means "who is awake" and we Hindus believe that it is important for us to stay up late this night drinking milk, singing or watching the beauty of moon or chanting or dancing.

In some Indian cultures, this day people celebrate the eldest daughter at home.
Some play Dandiya whole night.

This day is also known by Kumar Purnima or Kartikeya Purnima is some regions of India.
The believe behind this is that unmarried girls should pray to the moon or sun for better life partner by worshipping Lord Kartikeya. the eldest son of Mahadev and Devi Parvati.
Lord Karikeya is known for his bravery and beauty.

Scientific Significance -
This day Moon and the Earth are closet to each other than any other day.
Scientifically, the light of Moon has some healing properties, just like the light of the sun.
So keep eatables and offering for Moon whole night, along with spending time under the Moonlight.

                                                        Happy Kojagiri All !!!

A Crazy Little Thing Called LOVE

 Someday...

I don't know how long been I been keeping everything and hiding all the truth inside my heart.

Every single time we bump into each other, or every time you turn to me.

You know how hard it is to act if nothing happened.

Do you hear something?

My heart is saying that I Love You so.

But I can't let it out, or let anyone know.

Do you hear something?

My heart still says right there waiting for you to open it up.

And I hope you would know... Someday.

Even if I love, even if I have a feeling for you. But deep inside my heart dares not.

Every single time we bump into each other, or every time you turn to me.

You know how hard it is to pretend as if nothing happened.

Can you hear it?

My heart is saying that 'I do love you.'

But I can't let it out or even let anyone know

Do hear my heart?

It's right there waiting to be open.

And I hope that you would know... someday.

The Dreamseller

"We all need to buy a Coma, a second chance to rewrite our story" - The Dreamseller.

The Dreamseller is 2016 Brazilian movie based on the best selling book "The Dreamseller" written by world renown Brazilian psychiatrist and psychotherapist Augusto Cury. The movie begins with a famous psychologist tries to jump from the 21st floor of the building. And his saviour teaches some most beautiful life lessons, I came across.

Dreamseller is a famous businessman of his time - the Mellon Lincoln, who had a fortune of 50 billion dollars, third richest man in the Forbes 2013, and he had a life that many of us could only dream of.

But he lost his daughter and wife in a private helicopter crash. And there after he goes missing on roads for years. Since then he starts living on streets and teaching people how life is important and tries to help them with Stoicism based philosophy. He asked people questions and answers of these questions made them to introspect about themselves and to find the way of life. And that's how he helps our psychologist, who had bad relationship with his beloved son. In the end, he sort his relationship with his son.

Mellon Lincoln's story best signifies that in the end it doesn't even matter! Having all wealth in the world and after losing his wife and daughter, he became a beggar on the street. And that signifies the value of people whom we love the most and their value in our life.

As a 27 year old girl being thrusted into an unforgiving world and a "every man for himself " economy, this movie reminded me to stay humbled and rooted as a happy human being amidst life's obstacles.

Dreamseller in this movie sounds a lot philosophical at first, this movie is filled with scenes that make the reader to reflect on his/her life and bring light to what truly matters to one; their loved ones and dreams. I found the movie very fast paced yet straight to the point in the meaning of certain events; which is amazing. The audience is taken on an ambiguous a roller coaster from the beginning.

Our Dreamseller truly sells dreams to others. Hope is a last thing to lose and hope is not a strategy.

This movie is full of optimism and hope, definitely recommended to all those who feel lost in life.

We all need such Dreamsellers in our society and in our real life who can bring the good change.

Anata no Soba ni

You are the prize beyond my reach

That's why

I am just...

I don't think

I'm suitable for you

But why does it seem like I cannot let go

Does the Cinderella story even exist?

This happiness

Can I believe in it?

Is it all right to love you?

Even in this bubble-like dream,

Before I met you, I closed my eyes and gave up

I was drawn to you

For the first time

I ended up wishing

To be happy with you

Can I stay here forever?

I want to be by your side

Can I be next to you?

I don't want to give you up to anyone else

You're the first to make me feel this way

I was never able to get anything

I'm doing this

For the first time

This is special

So, I don't want to let go

I don't want to plan for our next meeting

I want to plan right away

I want you to rely on me during tough times

I don't want to regret anything

Even in this bubble-like dream,

Before I met you, I'd closed my eyes and give up

I was drawn to you

For the first time

I ended up wishing

To be happy with you

When what I have disappear,

or I lose them

I always thought, "This is Fine",

But you

And my time with you

I want it to last forever

This is what I feel, so

Can I stay here forever?

I want to be your side

So I can suit being next to you,

I will do my best,

For you, who first made me feel this way.

My favorite quote - Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react.

When I was thinking about the quote that inspired me the most or the one which can make life easy just by remembering it. The quote, "Life is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it", came on the top. This quote reminded how one should look at life, instead of getting stuck in depression or something. Sometimes in our life, we get stuck in any situation which is not in our favor or sometimes we get stuck with any person which can affect our life beyond our control. This is only because of the way we reacted in that situation.

We can always choose how to react in a particular situation or with a particular person. We cannot control many things, but we can control how we respond to them.
These lines are written by Charles Swindoll, an author whose book was sold 65 million times across the entire globe. So next time, when you feel stuck in any situation or with something which is not in your control, just remember you can control how you can respond in that situation!!!

Human Brain

Ever wonder how our brain functions? Or how we remember something and forget about something.

Human brain itself is a wonderful thing and still there is a lot to discover.

We are not the most intelligent species on this planet, but due to our brain we have that functionality to be the smartest on this planet. Our brain is made up of neurons, and our brain believes the most what you tell it most. What we repeatedly tell ourselves makes it happen. Neurons that fiber together, wire together.

Neuroplasticity is an incredible phenomenon of our brain, and it gives us the ability to change the brain's behavior in response to external factors. Whatever we tell our brain, becomes our reality and it's not science fiction, it's a scientific fact. There is one law, Hebb's law which explains the plasticity of our brain. It explains how neurons club together to become engrams. The law states that any two cells or system of cells that are repeatedly active at the same time will tend to become together at a same time, so that activity in one facilitate the activity in another.
